Where, Oh, Where Is Spring?

I truly believe I have written this post each and every year I have blogged. The older I get, the more I detest winter. It is the darkness and the cold that get to me. I kind of hibernate. I go to bed early. At one point, I think it was January, I told Jack I was so sleepy. He politely informed me that 7:20 pm was way too early to go to bed. I simply crave the sunshine, the warmer temps and the long twilight evenings of our late springs, summers and early autumns.

I am posting this on the eve of our road trip to California. We leave the first week of April. That state really knows how to do spring well. The fields and vineyards are waking up. The sun is always shining. It is warm and lovely temperature-wise.

We will head into wine country to see how things are recovering from the fires. I have no idea if Jack will make his traditional stop on state route 128. That is a special stop for us.

We have a busy spring and summer planned. Two wonderful sets of ttwd friends are coming to visit and are we excited. Family and our littles are coming deep into summer.  Now if all the little lambies would just warm up the weather, I would be so much happier.

Share your feelings about leaving winter behind.

Meredith

  1. Oh you are a lucky lady to be headed to nice weather as we are waiting for what appears to be another storm on the east coast. I'm tired of the cold. I want to be outside, sun shining down. We only have one vacation to ourselves and that is in July when we will be headed a bit north of here. I cannot wait. It is our only time alone. I try not to rush my life away but I'm tired and cold and, well, it's March. Time for nicer weather already! Have a wonderful trip and a great time with all of your upcoming visits!

  2. Winter doesn't bother me that much. I'm into hibernating. But that doesn't mean I'm not going to be happy when spring gets here.

  3. Hi Meredith ... I hate winter as well ... the dreariness just weighs me down. When we get little glimpses of Spring, like we've had in the last week or so, I'm like a cat ... I want to find a sun spot to bask in.
Here's hoping Jack decides to create some more road trip memories ;)) ... travel safe and have fun! ... nj ... xx

  4. Hi Meredith, I'm lamenting the end of summer for us and desperately trying to hang on to it!

Sounds like you and Jack have some wonderful plans. Enjoy your trip :)

  6. Hi Meredith, I keep thinking Spring is on the way and then we get another biting cold day to delay it. We have had some awful storms and in the last few days an area of beach front homes have been evacuated as they are about to slip right over the cliff and into the sea! We really need a change in the weather soon. WE are off on a jaunt at the same time as you, but to Scotland. I don't think Spring will be springing up there either.....
    love Jan, xx

  7. As you are heading into your Spring, we are in autumn. At the moment you wouldn't know it though as still having the odd day over 30c. I actually like winter and being able to rug up. Especially with a pretty scarf from one of our mutual friends.
Enjoy your trip and stay safe.
    Hugs Lindy xx

  9. Hi Meredith! :) Sounds like you have some wonderful plans ahead! Great to look forward to when the cold weather is lingering! Won’t be long now.

We are up for more snow around here. Like PK, I enjoy the snow- good weaving/photography ops... as long as I don’t need to be anywhere. I’m definitely ready for spring weather though! Stay warm! Many hugs,

    ❤️Katie

  10. I'd say I prefer quiet snowy winter to the gales of wind we've been having lately as spring marches in. Though the sunny days are nice.

  11. Well, my daffodils are in bloom but the tulips are still to come. We get one beautiful day, and then it turns back to wind and cold.

I am most definitely not a winter person. I love being out in my garden when the trees are just starting to leaf out in that vivid spring green. When suddenly my perennials start to peek out of the ground. It is such a feeling of rebirth.

As much as I hate the cold, I always marvel at nature's plan as the seasons roll through their cycle. "To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven..."

Just like your road trip to California happens each year at this time, Mere. Smile, for spring will be here soon.

    Hugs From Ella

  12. I’ve had enough of winter, so much snow! At least the days are drawing out and it’s light when I wave Harry goodbye in the mornings now. Today is the Spring Equinox, so I’m living in hope that spring will soon be on its way.

  13. I am with you on too much winter...I grew up saying I loved living in an area with 4 seasons...now, I would be much happier with winter lasting , at most, 1 week. Sounds like you have lots of fun and memory making opportunities coming up,,,enjoy!!! hugs abby

  14. I have enjoyed the winter, but feel complete and am fully ready for spring to come. I am enjoying the light but will be happy when the snow melts (and stops falling) and the flowers bloom and the weather is mild. Enjoy your fun spring plans! :-) Hugs

  15. How I love sitting in that passenger seat with my London Fog as we hit the road on a road trip. Have a great time and leave this cold weather behind. Hopefully by the time you get back you will notice a few more signs of spring shooting up.
Personally I am happy to leave the cold and snow behind at this point even though I do enjoy the winter season, but we’ve had enough...let’s move on!

  16. Hi Meredith,

I hear you about spring. We only have one more day in the forecast with below freezing temperatures, and I can't wait for it to be over. I hope you have a wonderful trip. :) Will you get to see C while you are there? :) Hope spring gets here soon for you and you can enjoy the longer days. :)
