Please tell me.................

I know that everyone reading this blog is a busy person. Right? I thank you for reading New Twist and I really sincerely thank those who take the time to comment. So here is what I want to know. Do you come back and read my replies to comments? I know I have just started that.  If you do not, that is fine. If you do come back to read my replies, that is fine too. I just want to know. If you would be so kind as to write a comment sharing which way you do it, I would appreciate it very much. A simple yes or no would do it!

We are all busy people and I want to use my time well in the same way you do.

Meredith

I am on your side too, but the trend is to reply while I prefer to email.

  3. I like to read replies, interesting to know if they were helpful or just funny or not? Know it takes time so I suppose it matters more if you get anything out of replying? Hope that helps.

  4. Mere, I usually go back to read replies, but didn't know you had started doing so. Will gladly pop back to visit whenever I can!

Do agree about the busy life stuff! On my blog, I try to see how many replies I can make in a certain amount of time. Sort of my personal "Coffee and Reply Challenge."

  6. I'm sorry - I don't. I guess I forgot. I'm checking the "Notify Me" box so I can hear back from you, Meredith. Thanks for asking...it's a good reminder. I know I appreciate when I see bloggers write responses to their readers, so I guess I just haven't been used to you write a response. Hopefully, that'll all change now.

  8. Hi Meredith, :) Yes, I always read the replies and comments. The “conversation” around a post can be additionally thought provoking, fun, informative, etc. If you check the box, when you leave a comment, the replies come into your email, so you can read them easily, all in one place, without going back to a post. Many hugs,

    ❤️Katie

  11. Hi Meredith, I do like to come back and read replies, although I don't always do it. I find they can often either provide more background to the post, or a further update, what happened after etc.

  12. I always come back and look - even before you started replying. I think replying to comments is the most important thing we do as bloggers. I wrote a post on it once. I said it was like having a beautiful garden around our home. If someone comes by and says, "You have a beautiful garden. I enjoy it so much." Not replying to comments is like the gardener standing there looking back at them but saying nothing. People might still like the garden, but they may not bother speaking again. It's the back and forth of comments that drew me into blogging. Because the early bloggers answered me amazing friendships began. Some of the best I've ever had in my life. Can you tell I'm passionate about answering comments? I am!

  13. I personally find it rude when a blogger doesn't respond to their comments. Of course there are times when one cannot, whether it be emotionally difficult or they have extenuating circumstances during that time. But I don't care for the, " I am busy" mindset. You had time to write, therefore you should take time for the people who took time for you and commented. As Katie said many great conversations have been had in the comments. I also agree with what PK said. When I blogged many years ago commenting was the foundation to blogging more so than the posts. I would never comment on blogs where the writer didn't bother to acknowledge their comments.

  14. Hi Meredith,
Back in the olden days when I blogged, read and commented extensively I felt like I was part of a community that in many ways was driven by the relationships formed from writing but also engaging back and forth in comments. When over time I saw that a blogger didn't engage by answering comments I simply stopped reading and contributing to their blog. I can only think of one exception to that, where out of friendship I stuck around. Katie and others have already said it above, but for me blogging was extremely relational. There were times on my blog when comments drove whole new conversations that became milestones in my growth and often a moment of epiphany for another. I closed my blog down some time ago because I wasn't following my own rules. I wasn't contributing anymore.

Times change, those of you who are engaged here now may do things differently and form friendships more privately but this old timer would encourage you to keep answering comments and see what happens. The fact that you have stuck around and feel like you have plenty to write about means that your blog could help to be a sounding board for others who may be just starting out.

    1. Susie,
Welcome back. I loved your blog as did so many. Are you reading here regularly? I have always made myself available through email. I have made some great friends behind the blog and meeting them has been especially rewarding. Please write me an email as I would love to catch up. Thank you for your sincere comments. It means a lot to have you stop by.

I too loved your blog and was sorry to find it was blocked when I last tried to reread it. You may not remember me, but I did comment a couple of times. Is there any chance I can be invited to read it or have you shut it down completely?

I admittedly rarely come to read anymore but as I am able I will try.

      Stevie Rose,
Hi! I do remember you. I just made it private as there hasn't been anything new there in a year or two. I promise I'll put it back up again if I'm ever inspired to write.

  19. I like to come back and check for new comments. I often get just as much from other's comments on a post as I do from the post itself. And it's always nice to know that someone has taken time out of their day to notice a comment you've left. :) I did not notice there was a "notify me" box to check ... how on earth did I miss that?? I've been checking the hard way. lol

  21. I hope you continue to reply. I agree that it adds to the feeling of community. I have been a lurker for the most part, but it is very nice to know I can participate. I read the posts of other bloggers who comment here also and do love that you given new bloggers the chance to be heard with your introductions.

  22. I like both, an email and a comment response.
Sometimes I have time for the email back and forth, other times I do not. I also appreciate the email when the conversation gets personal/private.
As long as we are chatting and it is alright for everyone and anyone to jump in, I prefer the reply to a comment. I will come back and read the one left for me and the ones left for others.
So whatever is within your ability Mer is fine by me. Thanks for asking! ;)

Maybe I should stick to email. Sheesh!
