The Waning Days of Summer

Summer has been wonderful. The weather has been very warm for our neck of the woods. We have been home with the exception of a fabulous visit to dear friends on the east coast. Home and summer go together. We do our traveling during the other part of the year and already have plans to see many interesting places when our weather becomes rainy and cold. Dressing "commando" and being in the garden with Jack is heaven.

So here on the homefront, here are some of the things we have enjoyed.

Baking........ I love to bake. Peach pie and lemon cake with lemon sauce were my go-to recipes all summer. Blue ribbon worthy! My kitchen has been a busy place.

We golfed and no, my golf game has not improved, but Jack is patient and we do have fun.I prefer twilight golf when the sky is pink and orange., the temperature has dropped and we have the course all to ourselves.

Yes, there were spankings........... all different kinds....... discipline sadly,  RA and good girls! Last week Jack did text me this photo as he came home from playing  a round on the links.

We spent a lovely week with friends on the beach on the east coast and then came home to spend another week at the beach home of west coast friends. Love these friends with beach places!! Plus I had a lovely ttwd friend come for a full week of talking and enjoying one another's company.

When I woke up this morning, I could feel fall in the air. The lighting was different, longer shadows and interesting sunrise. Plus it is now football season. Hooray!

I love the long golden shadows now as the season changes and the huge harvest red-orange moons this time of year. We can see the moon rising from our bedroom window. Gorgeous!

We have had a lot of fun....... playing and enjoying the weather.........And I am ready for fall! If someone could just get the stores to stop with the Halloween decorations, I would be thrilled.

How about sharing a couple of your best summer moments with all of us?

Thanks, L.

  1. Very much enjoyed this post, Meredith! :) Summer seems to have flown by for sure. Sounds as if your summer was filled with all great things- friends, baking, golf, beach, and time sans clothing with your spanky fella! Wonderful!

I'm with you on the early Halloween decor. Just want to enjoy the last bits of the season without being pushed into the next. I must say though, fall is my fav season... I'm not ready to say goodbye to summer though!

This summer has been both wonderful, and full- with sweet friends coming to visit us during our family time at my folks' summer place, helping us to make new memories;) Our kids, along with their lovely friends and/or partners visited as well- very fun; workmen in and out of our new place, furniture out, some new furniture in; preparing, and recently taking our youngest to college (yep- empty nest is here), a lovely visit to our younger son's city, special time spent with him; and don't forget the fun start of the summer, with 5 other spanky friends! It has been a whirlwind- but one special one indeed. Many new & wonderful memories made. Oh and there has been plenty of spanky business too! HA!

So glad that you and Jack had lots of fun and enjoyed! Lovely post, and so great to read here again, as I begin to make my way back around the land! I've missed everyone incredibly! Many hugs and love,

    <3 Katie

  2. Mere,,, love your map and this post. I've had a good time on my patio getting a lot of sun.

  3. so glad you had such a wonderful summer! My memories are filled with lazy days on the couch reading, playing in the pool with the kiddos, visiting friends near and far, going to the ocean and jumping in the waves, eating ice-cream, and laughing...sad to see it end but look forward to making memories of cooler days and colors fall... :-) Your lemon cake sounds delicious. Hugs

  4. Thanks for sharing your wonderful summer memories, Meredith.
We have had some great moments here, but autumn is AWESOME, and like you I'm looking forward to it. In fact, we were just talking about football at dinner tonight.
My best memory of this summer is an unprecedented 5 straight weeks of uninterrupted TTWD consistency...and counting! The results have been amazing.
Thank you, Meredith, for your ongoing encouragement.

  5. Hey Mere...happy to hear that you and Jack had such a lovely summer visiting the pictures...gotta wonder what was made with the flour and bare butt. ;) Looking forward to football season (Chiefs fan here) but not looking forward to cold weather...really wish we varied between spring and fall...could do without summer and winter. LOL

My best memory of this summer was having my grands here in early summer. :)

    Hugs and blessings...Cat

  6. Hi Meredith, glad you have enjoyed the summer. For me two stand out things of this summer have been having grandbaby to stay for a while and meeting Rosie :)
    love Jan, xx

  7. Hi Meredith, enjoyed reading this. So glad you and Jack had such a wonderful summer full of friends, golf, baking and fun spanky times :)

We are heading into spring here and I can't wait for summer. The days are starting to get longer already :)

  8. Hi Meredith. Loved reading about all the fun times you had over summer. Like Roz we are heading into Spring, my favourite time of the year. Can't wait for the days to be a bit warmers and stay light longer.
    Hugs Lindy

  9. Nice Post. I can handle the halloween decorations - it's the Christmas stuff that drives me batty.

  10. It sounds like you've both had a wonderful summer. I love the pictures you have chosen to share with this post as well. Summer always flies by and this one was no exception. We made wonderful memories this summer with both friends and family and now it's time for everyone to do their own thing which makes it a little bittersweet. It's always great to have time together and I cherish it more and more as the time passes.
Wishing you great adventures for the fall and looking forward to hearing about a few of them!

  11. I envy your changing season. We are in full on hot hurricane time and Halloween decorations in August? Yuck! Headed to the beach for fun and sun. Sadly we will not cool off until October? Maybe?
