Sunny's Tech Meme!

I am not a big fan of memes as they give too much information about who we really are. That said, this meme of Sunny's really looks like one that I can speak the truth without revealing too much.

Recently Jack and I were leaving a restaurant walking the maze of tables in a very fancy restaurant. Sadly many couples were using their phones instead of talking to one another. Not only do I think it is bad manners, I think this trend represents the loss of connection, real connection between two people sharing a meal and enjoying one another's company. My cell phone is in my purse always during a meal. Good manners are essential.

Sunny has written a meme that begs answering. Here goes.

Are you on Facebook?
If yes, do you respond to what you consider stupid posts?

I am on Facebook and consider it two ways: a complete time eater and a wonderful way to keep in touch with friends around the world and across the United States.

I let the "stupid" ones go. I let most of the political ones go as well. Sometimes I want my two cents' worth shared. I do find it is a fine line between bragging and keeping in touch. I much prefer the privacy of emails rather than splashing of my life all over Facebook. That said, I do put up photos regarding our travels. As I said, it is a fine line.

Name one of your favorite bugaboos?

One thing that really bugs me are those who share the unimportant events in their lives that are really mundane or not worthy.

How many Facebook friends do you have?

I am very selective. After just checking, I have 218. I have bloggers and readers of the blog who are friends.

Assuming you have an email account, how often do you check?

I do wish I could honestly say I check twice a day, but that would not be truthful. I check all day long which does get me in hot water here with Jack.

Do you have more than one email account?

I have three email accounts: Meredith, my real life and finance.

Do you twitter, or is it tweet?

I am not a teenager. I leave that to the young. I am distracted enough and do not need or want to be in communication with the world. I love privacy and tweeting sends out way too much personal thought and information.

Do you own a mobile phone?

I do! When cell phones became ubiquitous, mine was used for safety. Now I use it as a camera, a communication device, an audio book player, a music jukebox and very seldom, an actual phone. We were at friends for dinner last evening and all arrangments were made without speaking with one another. We text and emailed all dinner related information. I suspect that is  true for many these days. I like that. Phone calls do interrupt.

Is it a small phone or one of the old-fashioned kinds?

Mine is an iPhone 6+............. big enough so I can read my emails without putting on my reading glasses!

How often do you check messages, texts?

Too often according to Jack. We have a rule about checking. We did not have this rule until a few incidents occurred that required its enforcement. I am not to check my phone when we are together. If I hear an email or text coming in, I am to silence my phone. You can all guess how this came about. Jack and I were in the middle of a conversation and a text came in. I dove right into the message ignoring my husband. Not good, readers. So the rule was established and we do have very many "rules". Breaking that rule has earned me a sore backside. Now I do not break it.

Do you get accused of being on the phone or computer too much?

Duh! I have been spanked for too much computer time, However, after blogging for almost three years, my time online is greatly reduced. I have encouraged readers to write "behind the blog". Emailing feels like a much safer place to write than out front on the blog. I spent less and less time reading blogs because there are fewer and fewer blogs that I follow.

Would you rather read on an e-reader or from an actual book?

We do a lot of traveling so I do both. I carry an actual book. I do like my iPad reader with the Kindle and iBook apps. However, I need the actual book as a backup when battery life is low.

The title of the last book you read?

I read several books at once and I listen to books as I walk. The three most current are Ronnie's new book The Secret Diary of a Disciplined Wife, Jodi Picoult's Leaving Time and David Baldacci's Memory Man. Ttwd, elephants and murder! That is quite a wide range!

Sunny, thank you for this meme! It was fun and not  too revealing.

  1. Meredith,
I did like reading a meme from you. It always seems funny when you tell about Jack getting strict with your tech time. I think that would make a great story.

Loved the varied genre of your recent book reads. A little Meredith here and a little Meredith there.

  2. I can relate to much of this! I have such a hard time not checking my phone when it pings. my kids still connect with me that way, family etc....but I do believe I am being rude sometimes so I try to surreptitiously notice if it is from kids or immediate family.
If its not important I try and wait!

  3. Love your answers, Mere. I really have no trouble not answering messages on my phone but I do look to see who the message is from. I also have separate ring tones set up for my kids and my mom so if they call, I do answer. Thanks for sharing.

    Hugs and blessings...Cat

  4. Loved seeing your answers to this meme Meredith. I agree it is shocking the amount of people out for dinner on their phones instead of communicating.
