How do you put into words the magic of a particular afternoon in March? The weather which did not matter was beautiful. The outfits, oh so cute, but really unimportant! The place ............ just a dot on a map, really! A shared meal and lots of conversation......... but unlike any before this one! So what made this one afternoon so magical? I met and hugged my good friend Cali. Let me set the stage.
I fussed about what to wear needlessly. I fussed about my hair needlessly. Those things are so important before meeting as first impressions do count. Actually they do not make any difference at all. Jack and I drove to the chosen restaurant and true to my nature, we were early. I waited anxiously pacing and thinking. Then there she was. I knew her face as we had exchanged photos lots of times. She hadn't seen me so I stepped out to call her name. On the second try, she turned and we simply raced to one another hugging and laughing like the true friends we were.
There was no awkwardness at all. We started talking and and really never stopped. Our men were invited to join us for lunch and the four of us sat down to enjoy our meal and friendship. We talked together for a time, but finally the conversation broke into guy talk and girl talk.
Cali is really beautiful, poised and taller than me!!! She is vivacious and sparkly eyed! She is lovely and sweet! These are the qualities that come across in her blog. So I already knew that about her just as you all do. But to see for myself up close was so sweet. The two of us have always said that I am her big sister and I love that role.
Cali's hubby is tall, handsome and funny. He seems to have the ability to be comfortable with those he has just met. He did have a twinkle in his eye as we shook hands. So fun and sweet!
We talked about everything and I do mean everything including kids, travel, and you know the rest! We called this meeting a reunion because we already knew one another. We were just putting eyes on one another for the first time and we really liked what we saw. Our men talked away as men do: football, careers, travel.
Finally Jack turned to me and said it was time to go. We had miles to go. So we began the special ritual of taking photographs. The keeper photos show two women, smiling and hugging. We are two best friends meeting for the very first time.
To Cali, I will treasure our time together and know it just might be the first of many visits. Hooray!
